When it Comes to Sewer Repair, Which is Better?: Pipe Relining vs. Pipe Bursting

Categories: Sewer

Are you having problems with your sewer system and you need to replace all or part of your pipeline? Do you dread the thought of even calling someone about your sewer because you don’t want to deal with the repair?

At Rowell’s Services, we are experienced in all types of pipe replacement and repair. Whenever possible, we’ll use trenchless sewer repair techniques to fix your pipes. This saves you time, money, and hassle and it gets your repair done fast. Two of the most common types of trenchless sewer repair are pipe relining and pipe bursting.

What is Pipe Relining?

Pipe relining, also known as sewer pipe lining or cured-in-place piping, involves creating a new inner surface for your sewer pipe. If something has damaged your pipe but it is intact on both sides of that damage, we’ll run a resin-soaked liner down the pipe until it covers the damaged place. Then, we’ll attach that liner to the pipes on both sides and let it harden.

Once it’s solid, the sewer pipe lining acts as your pipe. It is solid and sturdy and most liners come with at least a 10-year guarantee. We’ll test your sewer pipe lining before we leave, just to make sure it’s working as designed.

What is Pipe Bursting?

Pipe bursting uses technology to break up your current pipe, expand the soil where the pipe runs, and pull new piping into place, all at the same time. It does require digging at least one hole for inserting the equipment and the new pipe, but this is not as extensive as the digging required for traditional sewer repair.

Once the new pipe is in place, we’ll attach it on both sides, let it cure, then test it to ensure it’s working the way you need it to.

Which is the Best Repair for Me?

The right type of trenchless pipe repair for you will depend on a few factors, including:

pipe lining vs pipe bursting northfield nd
  • How extensive is the damage?
  • How deep is the damaged pipe?
  • Where on your property is the damaged pipe?

It also depends somewhat on your ultimate goals. If you want to put in a larger sewer line, you’ll need to use pipe bursting. In addition, if the soil where the line runs is sandy or rocky, then we recommend pipe relining whenever possible.

The best way to choose between sewer pipe lining and pipe bursting is to get our experts from Rowell’s Services to evaluate the situation. We’ll get you all the information you need to make a wise choice about the repair that is best for you and your family. Once you choose your repair method, we’ll get your new sewer line laid fast!
